Brief:
To shoot a range of images good enough to be printed in a 30cm square book. 4-5
chapters with text. The book will be based around London UK, Working ideas for chapters are currently "Portrait People, Buildings, Street, Sport, Wealth and/or History.
Working Title options: "City Exposed" or "Taking the Light"
Predicted issues:
- Digital cameras are native 7x5, not 1x1, I will
need to consider framing. - Prints are reasonably large so need to consider
format and quality. - Cost of printing, may need to put in some
overtime!
Tools:
- Canon 50D, Canon 70-200mm L Series, Sigma 30mm,
Canon 60mm macro, Canon 17-85mm IS. - Photoshop
- Blurb Books - www.blurb.co.uk/
- Deviant Art critiques (not that I am calling any
of you tools!!)
Preparation:
in images playing to my strengths in photography and digital darkroom. Each
chapter should have a title and a blurb telling the reader the context of the
shots. Each chapter should contain 5-8 shots with a final page talking about
each image, not sure if should be technical or story based, i am leaning towards story but maybe a mix. Storyboard the
book and shot types before shooting.
From the Hip Part 2
So my last entry (a long time ago) was about shooting from the hip,
errmm so this was just an awful idea.. turns out you end up with a lot of crap in fact it took about 1000 shots before i got even close to lucky, everything was blurred, out of focus, bland and boring. The only shot out of the lot i even hinted at liking was the one below. its not great but its raw, no photoshop, no settings, shot on Program (Canon 50D with a 70-200mm F4 L series Lens)
so i think we can safely say that you need to compose pretty much 99% of your photography and only sometimes through extreme perseverance do we get lucky. END
From the Hip
I was reading the Sta.sh from DA about Steet togging, it posed a very good question about posing and snapping people who are not aware of the camera, Personally i prefer to snap them before they see me, capture the "real them" as they are perceived on the street. but i can also see the beauty in posed art and the message that can convey.

Here is a shot that i took in Guildford, its a reaction shot, i was walking Camera in hand and on seeing this couple looking "oh so glam" i took the shot, BUT i still took the time to shoot at eye lev

Still Finding my Feet..
Well its been 4 months since I joined here, I'm really glad I did, I have met some amazing artists and been impressed with everyone's amazing work! In the last 4 months DA has motivated and taught me loads about Photography styles, ideas and techniques as well as a lot about "Digital Darkroom" I feel like my "Arty" side has grown and for that I am grateful to the rest of you.. Right now my biggest inspiration on DA is Jaime Ibarra. http://jaimeibarra.deviantart.com/ I find his work amazing to look at, his use of colour is just brilliant.. but please don't feel like I don't love you all :-)
